English Rogers Serial Numbers.

Thanks to Swivomatic having joined us I think it is possible to decipher English Rogers serial numbers.

Not all the drums have serial numbers. If they are present they are ink stamped on the inside of the shell under the chromed script logo. My Mardi Gras kit which I now believe to be quite early (say end of 1961) because of the way the shells are constructed and the profile of the bearing edges (I will do a more detailed post at some point) has a serial numbers of around 66536. Swivomatic's Dyna, bought in 1966 is 96809.

So a quick piece of arithmetic gives us-

96809-66536=30273 drums produced over 5 years.
That's 6054 drums per year.
504 drums per month.
126 per week.
Or 25 drums per working day.

This places my B&B lug Dyna (serial 85353) at the end of 1964 which is consistent with what I already thought ie. 1963/64.

There are some questions. Not all drum have serial numbers. Would they non the less be included in the count? Were Ajax's drums from other ranges(Edgware, Strattford) also included in this count? However a significant step forward.

Hi Borsaida
Your serial number gives a date of end of 1966. That will be a nice kit. They got better as time went on I think.
By all means post some pics and let's have a look, and welcome to the ROF.

Thank you N B!
I´ll be back with some photos asap.
One thing that confuses me is that some of the hardware is named Swiomatic and some Rogers. Could it be a mix up between US/English standard?

Wow Borsaida, you have the mythical Tiger Stipe! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
I've only ever seen one of those before, it isn't in the catalogue and opinion was on the side of it being a rewrap. However it looks absolutley genuine. You are one lucky son of a gun! emoticon emoticon
If you could post a photo of the floor tom wrap seam that would confirm it's authenticity but at the moment from what I can see it looks original.
Never sell that to anyone but me!!!!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

I had to copy and paste but it took me to the pics. Great looking ER. Love the Made In England stamp.
