wrapping a fullerton
The bare wood kit I've mentioned here is in my garage. I filled a few nasty holes in the kick with maple plugs which went well. Now I'm thinking wrap, of course. But I am in Australia. What is the opinion of the tape only wrap you can buy on the net? Will it look any good? Is it hard to do? Thanks as always.

PK.

Re: wrapping a fullerton
One of the members did a tape rewrap and it came out good. I'll see if I can find the post.

Re: wrapping a fullerton
JammingSams has tape wrap that I sent out for some samples. It's pretty good material. They claim it's the same wrap the drum companies use. You can check it out. phil It's on the net.

Re: wrapping a fullerton
Hi Troutstudio,
i rewrapped a Fullerton set, although i,m no expert i found it relatively easy and very happy with the results [you can see my set in the photo gallery ]so long as you follow instructions which should be provided by supplier it is relatively straight forward. If you got any more questions i,ll be glad to answer if i can.

Re: wrapping a fullerton
The insides of the shells of this kit have all been tampered with. With the toms, it's simply sanding; but the kick has been clear varnished at some stage. I read somewhere that there was a speckled craft paint in a can which was close to the original auto trunk paint that Rogers used. I got some imported and it's way too thick to use on a drum, imo. Horrible actually and it cost me $40
Anyway, since this is a players kit, I am now thinking flat gray paint. There are patched holes in the shells and I'd like the insides to at least look tidy. The paint store can match any colour with their scanning tool so I could get close to the colour ok.
I'd like members opinions on this as it's a big step. What do you think?
As always, your time, interest and input are very much appreciated.

PK.

Re: wrapping a fullerton
My green glass glitter kit is a rewrap. I did it myself and used Con Bond spray adhesive for laminate. Thing is, you cant afford to mess up, or you are toast. I did my cylinders standing, and used adhesive in small sections at a time so that it did not walk up on me as it made its way around the shell. And I did not hurry the process. Once wrapped, secruing the seam was just the finishing touch. I trimmed the edges by hand and married the new wrap finish into the bearing edge champher by hand with a file being careful not to scarify the edge. Once done, I lightly sanded around the wrap edge/bearing edge joint to make it as smooth as possible, yet without affecting the edge itself.
I wrapped these drums in 03, I finally finished them in oct. last year, (cleveland era mounts, single tom set up with telescoping cymbal rod)
My XP8 18-12-14 looks like a vintage Rogers from the 60s, but its not.
