new place

I'm in the process finding a new platform for the ROF. I will keep runboard up and running in the meantime but will only do minimal maintenance. Please bare with me. Photosuckit has really let us down.

I agree. PhotoSucket screwed the pooch on that one. If the price was even close to reasonable, I might have considered giving them a few quid, but it ain't gonna happen

Thanks Jack! This site is a great resource and I'd hate to see it disappear.
Let me know if I can help in any way.

I will do my best to find another platform without cost, but so far they all have a fee. I'll keep you all posted. Thanks amosguy!

Why wouldn't a Facebook group work?

Re: new place

There are currently 5 Rogers Drums facebook groups.

1. Rogers Owners Group
2. Rogers Drums
3. Rogers Drums group II,.... for buying and selling a subgroup of Rogers
4. Rogers Drums USA
5. Rogers Drums USA Dyna-Sonic Lovers Group

They are all well managed, with good moderators. All 5 have over 10000 members combined... a lot of people are members of all five groups. I think the unique user count between them all will number about 5000 individuals. Crap, Spam, Politics aren't topics of discussion or tolerated.

I would recommend any and all.

Search function on FB is more hassle than most any website. And would you not have to create different pages for SALE, VINTAGE, CATALOGS, etc sub forums?

Re: new place

There are disadvantages to facebook. It lacks the ability to effectively search for minute information. This place wasn't all that great in that regard. It was better than facebook It lacks the layering ability of a forum based site. DFO, VDF, and here are much more efficient in that regard. Facebook is not and does not have that capability. But then, it was never intended to be that type of format.

Everything we want is to some extent already present there, albeit with the limitations inherent with facebook.

I am not saying create more pages. What you want is already present and working. Join in and give it a go... I have come to accept its limits, and for the most part, am satisfied with the flow of information.

Re: new place

Just reviving this thread for further discussion. With all the news about FB recently, I'm certainly thinking about quitting it.
Jack - any luck in finding another home for this site?
We (can I say we?) need to find a platform that has a good search function and will allow images to be uploaded directly.
That's probably going to add up to a lot of storage, which will require ads or some other method of funding.
I've been on some special interest sites that used "sponsorship" pretty effectively to raise $ and keep the ads to a minimum.
The other question is whether the content from this site can be easily migrated and how would you restore the missing photos? Some of the OPs are likely no longer active here.
The FB pages are great for a running discussion, but this site can be the premier Rogers reference archive, IMO.
