3 ply and 5 ply shells
Hi,
sorry if this has been covered before but a quick question about 3 ply and 5 ply shells.
In what year did they stop making 3 ply shells? Is it possible to have a script badge powertone that is 5 ply or is that def 3 ply?
And if I have a Big R tom ( D041423) that is certainly a 5ply?
I used to know more about this stuff! Useful to know when buying drums online. I'm considering tracking down some 3 ply shell Rogers drums specifically for recording. Tossing up between them and Ludwig mainly at the moment.

Re: 3 ply and 5 ply shells
there aren't any definitive answers on either side of this question. There are both three ply and five ply 9/72 drums.
In the five digit D series badge numbers from the early Big R era... there are both three ply and five ply Big R drums.
You have to count the plies.
