1970/71 Londoner Restoration
I previously mentioned My Restoration Story in the new member introduction section:
Rogers owner since early 70's when my parents got me the set at around age 10. My son is now 10 and into drumming so it's time to clean up the old blue sparkle Londoner(?) and get it ready for the next generation. The set has not been played in close to 30 years and was unfortunately stored in a garage/carport in Florida.
To the best of my knowledge it is a somewhat cobbled together 1970/71 Londoner with:
12" and 13" mounted toms (Holiday, Fullerton)
16" floor tom (Powertone, Fullerton)
14" snare (Powertone?, label missing)
20" bass drum (Holiday, Fullerton)
For the most part, the set needs a complete cleaning and the 13" tom pictured below shows why.
The garage grime took over the drums which means that I need to completely disassemble and remove all hardware and clean and polish. I am using the Dawn soak process with the lugs and hoops and then scrubbing with a scrub pad. I am replacing all heads, but trying to keep everything else original.
Below is the finished 13" next to the 12" that is next in line.
Will keep posting pics as the project continues.

Re: 1970/71 Londoner Restoration
Thanks Ploughman. It's been mostly clean-up of the shells, lugs, tension rods, hoops and replacing the heads. It's been great reading how other members have worked on their drums and the techniques they have shared.
Here's a before of the snare side:
And a few snare drum afters:
Cleaning the snare stand was not a lot of fun. A few pinched fingers along the way, but overall I am enjoying the process. Thanks again to all the members that have been very helpful without even knowing.

Re: 1970/71 Londoner Restoration
Thanks again for following my project and offering encouraging comments. Still working on the kit when I find the time. Next up is the hi-hat stand and bass drum pedal. Here are some before pics:
I want to clean them up since they are part of the original set, but may move on to something from today's technology when I start to play.

Hey, HollowEarth, count me in on the love here! I've been out of pocket for the last month or so and just catching up. You've done a fabulous job bringing back these awesome drums for your son. So cool all the way around!

Re: 1970/71 Londoner Restoration
Thanks Tommykat. Still working away, piece by piece when I get the time. I think the bass drum has been the most work, but am very happy with the results.
Time to set this kit up!
