Re: first Rogers drum kit

I really wish I had taken some before pix, nobody would have believed these were the same drums.Though not perfect I haven't been this proud of a kit ever, except for my first real kit,a gold sparkle 4 piece Del Rey kit from Aldens catalog bought with my paper route money.
The joy of playing this kit has given me the push I needed to sell off some Slingerland kits that I thought could never be replaced.
I now really know what it is like to here drums that sing.
When i bought these drums my oldest son came with,he's a fantastic drummer, and really tried to talk me out of getting them. These drums just kept asking me to save them.
I can proudly now claim to be a Rogers freak,COOOOOLL!

Re: first Rogers drum kit

So now my brain is about to explode.I've been reading my "Rogers" book by Rob Cook since I got it in 2012 along with his "Slingerland","Ludwig","Gretsch", and "Leedy" books when I got back into drums after a 35 year gap, the usual trying to make a living thing.
Contrary to what I have been reading, I know these Rogers drums are 3 ply, easy to tell when you disassemble them completely, not 5 ply.AND I've just discovered the shells are a maple , birch, maple ply layup. It's amazing what you can learn when you really are interested in learning. This must be why the Rogers drums sound so different to me,this along with the bearing edge profile and rering configuration. These are differences I have found between the other drums I've acquired and Rogers.
VINTAGE BOUTIQUE thats what I see, made with pride. Gary

Re: first Rogers drum kit

Congratulations! After playing Tama and Ludwig kits over the past forty years, I just got my first Rogers drum kit too. Actually I bought two of them, a Starlighter and a Londoner, and put them together as a seven piece kit. They are all Butcher Block finish: 13", 14", 16", 18" toms, 22" and 24" bass drums, and a 14" COB Dynasonic snare. They are all script logo from the early 70's, except the 18" floor tom which is a mid 70's model with a Big R badge. I have wanted one of these kits since 1984 when I saw Derek O' Brien from Social Distortion playing one. Hands down the best drums I have ever owned!
