Cutting the Memriloc hardware?
I have a few different Rogers sets now, and I've found that for many reasons I just love my XP8 set the best. I've heard mention of folks cutting the tom mounts smaller so they don't protrude through the entire drum. I'm curious about trying that, Is there any reason not to?

Re: Cutting the Memriloc hardware?
I have cut a couple of the tubes. No sonic reason not too do it. I used a pipe cutter available from most any hardware store.

Re: Cutting the Memriloc hardware?
How much did you end up removing? These things look like one could easily remove 2 to 2.5 inches off the end without sacrificing any strength at all. I think just leaving an inch past the mounting tube on the tom would still let me put it anywhere I would want to.

Re: Cutting the Memriloc hardware?
I cut mine to 4 inches of pipe. That is what I have seen Pearl holders measure at.

Re: Cutting the Memriloc hardware?
I set mine up where I wanted the toms to be playable. Then marked the tubes thru the removed bottom head. I cut to the line. That leaves me most of the inside tube to adjust if I want - 2-3 inches.

Re: Cutting the Memriloc hardware?
I bought some extra parts on eBay for cheap, as I didn't want to cut my original tubes (had 'em since new).
I adjusted my toms on the mounts exactly the way I like them and cut the tubes completely so that they do not protrude into the drums. This definitely made a difference in sonic quality.
I also shoved a cork into each of the tubes (note: you'll need a wide cork, like from a champagne bottle) and this also helped the sound.
Without a doubt, the Memriloc hardware damps the sound quite a bit.
the solution above improves the sound noticeably.

Re: Cutting the Memriloc hardware?
I cut down a wishbone piece to get 2 tom arms of the length I wanted. Same criteria Tommy used. But rubber stoppers from hardware store.

Re: Cutting the Memriloc hardware?
Anyone cut the center tube that protrudes into the bass drum? That also looks like it could be much shorter.

Re: Cutting the Memriloc hardware?
If you are going to cut the center tube, you might as well just remove it. It attaches to the bottom of the shell to support the the weight of the toms and what ever else you have on the holder.

Re: Cutting the Memriloc hardware?
Wouldn't recommend you cut the fixed tube in the bass drum. The holder is not set up to support the toms without it. Just the holder with the 2 bolts will not prevent side torque to the shell and possible damage.
I also did cut the tom holder down tube shorter. No sonic issue there. Just weight removal, although it is minimal at best.
EDIT - Cutting the down tube lets it fix in the carry bag easier.
