Re: Welcome Mike!
Thankyou for the welcome!!
I must confess straight away, I'm merely a long time admirer of Rogers, never quite got to own a kit - but I have come close!
During the late 70's, with the help of a local drum store that was floor to ceiling with vintage drums spares, I upgraded my first Premier kit with Rogers Swivo tom holders and a Swivo BD pedal (which I loved, until it died from over use!) - since then it's only been dreams....
A few years ago, I started buying up as much Swivo hardware, Rogers lugs, bits, pieces, shells etc as I could in order to make a one up two down Rogers kit. I got the last shell via a friend in Maryland to make a 13/16/18/24 set up - but I already owned about 6 different kits at the time and finally realised there were limits to my storage facilities.
I've used Swivo hardware on and off with my main kits for years and I still harbour a deep and possibly unhealthy desire for a 'proper' Rogers kit, I really love them. I'd like a late 60's script badge, big sizes, sparkle (any colour) with Swivo hardware.
I still have a few Swivo parts I can't bring myself to part with and I suspect I'll have a mad Sunday soon - buying everything I can find on eBay!!!
Worst Rogers experience was about 2 years ago at the UK National Drum Fair, I walked in and saw on the concession stand, a 24" script BD, a bit tatty, but servicable. Just as I walked over, an old friend collared me, we got chatting and after about 10 minutes I resumed my course to the drum.
It had gone, I asked my friend Andy who was manning the stand; "Where's that 24" Rogers bass gone?"
"Just sold it, the seller only wanted £15 (at the time, about $20) for it!"
Needless to say, I was a tad displeased.
One day, I will have a Rogers...... and not one those 'Yammy' pretenders........
