Re: ENGLISH ROGERS PROTOYPE BADGE HAS LANDED!!

That's the guy - luvlyboyglenn, I need to write these things down! He used my scan (which I then fixed up - scratches and such) so it is correct.

You know these beavertail lugged kits are rarer than the B&B ones. Production was winding down by the looks of it. They will have a longevity that the B&B ones just won't be able to match. No one is making replica ER B&B lugs like they are in the US for the American ones - a job for Baskey's perhaps? In the meantime if you have one of these you would do well to keep hold of it. I sold one and then kicked myself.

I will be at the NDF on the Saturday. Looks like I might have to drag my son around with me so probably won't be there all day. Oh I can hear the moaning already!

Hi Guys

y the way would anyone object if I put up a couple of pics of a mid 60's Premier kit I rescued from a car boot sale for £5 - it had been spray painted black - the whole thing - wrap, hardware hoops & all!! Absolute sacrelige!

But after 3 weeks elbow grease, 1200 grade sandpaper, two bottles of t-cut & Nitromors for the metal ware - it shows just what can be rescued given the inclination!!

Kindest regards

Steve emoticon

We would love to see the Premier set. Good drums!

Got my four badges in the post yesterday they look spot on.
Cant wait to get them on the drums, guess double sided tape is the way to go?

Thanks once again Steve for getting this off the ground, you are a scholar and a gent.

Your grey ripple looks great by the way, nice job.

Re: ENGLISH ROGERS PROTOYPE BADGE HAS LANDED!!

Hi Guys,

Wow! Nice kit Funkydrumma! Love the BD Logo - will have to get hold of one.

I'm probably going to the Drum Fair on the Sunday Nutbox - so looks like we will miss each other - I too will have one of my sons in tow - mercifully he is a drummer so shouldn't get too much moaning! emoticon
I would never dream of getting rid of my ER kit - it is without doubt one of if not THE nicest kits I have ever owned - I will probably be buried with it when the time comes....!!! emoticon It has now spurrred me on to try & get my hand on a comparable Rogers USA kit just to see what the differences are (if any)?

Something I thought would interest you Nutbox is a good (drummer) friend of mine has an English Rogers with matching wood shell snare finished in Mardi Gras - I've been trying to get him to part with it for about 6 months now as he has switched to playing an electric kit!! emoticon emoticon
What really frustrates me is that I had the chance to buy this kit from its origninal owner back in 1982 for £50! but did not have a clue what it was then? The benefit of hindsight etc. I can't remember though whether it was a BT or BB lugged kit. Am I correct in thinking Mardi Gras is quite a rare finish for an ER or am I completely wrong?

I am going to keep wearing him down to see if he will part with it. I'm not sure what I should be offering him as a price? Any suggestions?

Glad you are happy with the badges Burt66.

OK as Jack has given the green light - here are some pics of the now restored Premier kit I picked up from a car boot which were in a terrible state when I got them having been sprayed black!

Image

a very sick bass drum paint all over re-rings, bearing edges shell interior, seams lifting etc. - but something interesting beneath the (black painted) hardware.....

Floor tom half done!

Image

Floor tom strip down & paint removal finished!

And voila! A transformation! And worth every penny of the £5 it cost me!! emoticon emoticon

Hope no one minded too much that it wasnt a Rogers!??

Take care all

Best wishes

What beautiful drumset! You did a fantastic job of restoration. I love that wrap, what a great color. I think I'll send you my XP8's for refinishing emoticon

Vintage Premier drums are quality instruments.

Wow, nice job on the Prems.

The Mardi Gras ER, yes comparatively rare. There are a few about but only seen one complete with matching snare (see photos on National Drum Fair site from last year - belongs to Ken Hickey, same bloke who does the early ER bass logo vinyls, one of the NDF committee I think).

They only did the Mardi wrap for a couple of years so it will have B&B lugs so you would be letting yourself in for all that trouble, but judging by your work it doesn't look like you would be bothered.

The bearing edges won't be the same as your Grey Ripple. Early on they were rounded rather than the sharper edges that came later. It looks like ER were following the change in the US from rounded (Holiday) to the sharper edges (Powertone). The drums do sound different. When I got my Mardi it was the first ER in playing condition that I had played in 30years and I just couldn't get it to sound the way I remembered (because the drums that I had as a kid had the sharper edges). If you go for it have a listen first. I would view it as a collectors piece rather than being useful for gigging with a rock band say.

Offer him £55! emoticon Price wise anything from £300- £500 I would have thought depending on how you both feel about it. They don't come up for sale so it is difficult to say.

Wrong bass logo.

Shame we won't be there on the same day.
