All blue sparkle and in excellent condition. I bought from the original owner, he gave me the receipt of sale from March 1966. I suspect from what I've read that there is less mystery around the dates of this particular kit. But, on the link below, if the years are correctly attributed to these catalogs, the Holiday only shows up in the 1957 catalog. Do we know how long they produced the various outfits?  http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/rogers_drumsets.html I don't know if it's coincidence but from the bill of sale it appears this guy and his dad payed exactly what the catalog shows here - $415. From the handwritten itemization that accompanies the receipt, that price seems to have included hardware and cymbals. I only purchased the 4 drums. The floor tom is the only drum I've opened up so far (has original Rogers top head). The tag shows Holiday, Cleveland, serial # 48121. I gather the serials are not super helpful. Mostly just curious as to whether this kit was built prior to '65 or '66. Your tags are larger than a business card, and have some good stuff on them: Rogers, Power Tone, etc. The 9/72 tags are small like a postage stamp, and only have the serial number, and '9/72' on them. These tags were used from late in 1972 thru 1975 (during this time, the '9/72' on the tag did not change) until the Big R tags came along on the Memriloc drums. Rogers moved to Fullerton in 1969, and used tags like yours until that time in 1972 when they switched to the little tags. The Fullerton tags did change somewhat during that 69-72 period, and I believe yours are from 71-72 as I posted above.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Dan1C)Sun, 13 Dec 2015 19:55:32 +0000 Re: Dating Guidehttps://brogersownersforum.runboard.com/p45672,from=rss#post45672https://brogersownersforum.runboard.com/p45672,from=rss#post45672Thanks for the info, did they carry the MBMBM shells over into the 70s? I picked it up about a year and a half ago for 400 dollars. It is a Power Tone model (Two words) Serial Number: 25625 Made in Fullerton California. It is the Koa wrap with the speckled gray interior. I really wanted to know what year it is from, I know it is around the early 70's, and I was also looking to see if anyone had any other information about it like what kind of shells. I did read about Rogers doing the 5 ply on Powertones in the 60s while in Ohio with maple/poplar/maple/poplar/maple, could that be what mine are too? Thanks for the help.nondisclosed_email@example.com (OConnor14)Sun, 29 Nov 2015 16:31:08 +0000 Re: Dating Guidehttps://brogersownersforum.runboard.com/p45025,from=rss#post45025https://brogersownersforum.runboard.com/p45025,from=rss#post45025I really appreciate everyone's responses. I think I'm going to conclude that both kits are 5 ply Big Rs probably put out during the last half of that model's run. The floor tom with the flat grey paint must be one of those exceptions and the 13" tom with lacquered interior must have been a special order during XP8 production. Thanks again... nondisclosed_email@example.com (RobGoc)Tue, 20 Jan 2015 01:59:05 +0000 Re: Dating Guidehttps://brogersownersforum.runboard.com/p45022,from=rss#post45022https://brogersownersforum.runboard.com/p45022,from=rss#post45022quote:RobGoc wrote: Wow thanks for the info guys! The dealer must have snuck it in or switched it out for some reason, although the hardware is an exact match w/ the exception of the washers and slightly shorter hex lug screws I mentioned earlier. I still have a nagging feeling about the black 16" tom with flat grey paint. If the drum has the reinforcing rings (which it does), black wrap and is probably post 1979 then shouldn't it have speckled grey paint? Why would someone paint ugly flat grey over the uniform speckled stuff. Hmmph..... On special order, the factory would supply XP8 drums in the exterior finish you requested to match your existing 5 plies. You would then end up with their more "modern" XP8 drum matching your set on the outside, but the wood ply construction would be completely different. It is my understanding that they painted the inside with trunk paint to match the painted interior of the earlier Fullerton 5 ply drums. The Rogers Book has an anecdote about this, if I remember correctly. nondisclosed_email@example.com (tommykat1)Mon, 19 Jan 2015 21:45:11 +0000 Re: Dating Guidehttps://brogersownersforum.runboard.com/p45021,from=rss#post45021https://brogersownersforum.runboard.com/p45021,from=rss#post45021There are some late issue five ply drums with flat gray no speckle paint. nondisclosed_email@example.com (JohnPloughman)Mon, 19 Jan 2015 21:28:29 +0000 Re: Dating Guidehttps://brogersownersforum.runboard.com/p45018,from=rss#post45018https://brogersownersforum.runboard.com/p45018,from=rss#post45018If that floor tom has rerings, it cannot be post-79. It is an XP8 drum, 8 plies of maple, no rerings, no paint inside, introduced in 1979. The flat, zinc-coated wingnuts came after the shiny cast wingnuts that are on the drums with the speckled grey insides. Not sure exactly when, but they are later, possibly after the Xp8's came out in 1979. Any Big R drum will have either a speckled inside (5-ply) or a clear inside (XP8). If it appears to be brush painted, it probably was done by an owner somewhere along the line. If it has no rerings, it might be an XP8 that someone painted to match other drums that are not XP8 drums. There is an exception to all this: if the drums are from before 1979 (the 5-ply/rerings drums) and have a lacquer finish outside (tobacco sunburst, wine red, natural) they will have natural insides, no grey speckled paint.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Dan1C)Mon, 19 Jan 2015 10:01:42 +0000 Re: Dating Guidehttps://brogersownersforum.runboard.com/p45015,from=rss#post45015https://brogersownersforum.runboard.com/p45015,from=rss#post45015The tom with the clear interior and no rerings is an XP8 model, stating in 1979 I believe.nondisclosed_email@example.com (amosguy)Mon, 19 Jan 2015 10:00:16 +0000 Re: Dating Guidehttps://brogersownersforum.runboard.com/p45014,from=rss#post45014https://brogersownersforum.runboard.com/p45014,from=rss#post45014Here are some pics of the kits I was describing. One 13" tom clearly is 5 ply without reinforcing rings. I tried to get good shots of interiors so you can see the difference between the speckled grey in most of the shells vs. the flat trunk paint in the single 16" floor tom. The memriloc mounts and beaver tail lugs have been removed for cleaning and possible rewrap of the two drums that had been previously stripped, but they seem to all be pretty typical. I included pics of the two types of wing screws, the shinier of which goes with kit #1. Each kit has one goofy drum slightly eschew from the rest, even though I am sure they came in the set originally. They all have beaver tail lugs and memriloc hardware. Any help dating them would be awesome. KIT #1 _______________________________________________________________ 20" - D725887 - speckled interior 16" - D725747 - speckled interior 12" - D717938 - speckled interior snare D729193 - Dynasonic 13" - No Srl # - 5 ply, no paint, no reinforcing ring, badge is 180°, half of the lug hex mounting screws are a hair shorter to compensate for thinner shell and the other half of the screws are slightly longer (you can barely tell) hex screws, but with little washers under them. The memriloc tightening wing screws on this kit are very shiny chrome, an "R" on the flat head, textured ridges on the sides and real sleek look. KIT #2 _______________________________________________________________ 24" - 731325 - speckled interior 14" - 717229 - speckled interior 13" - 717213 - speckled interior 16" - 745008 - Very flat grey paint that looks hand brushed, the shell has a reinforcing ring and the memriloc leg mounting screws with star washers. For some reason this shell seems way more resonant than the 16" floor from the other kit. The memriloc tightening wing screws on this kit all have the "R" on top in a circle. They seem real grey and old like pot metal or steel. Thanks in advance for any assistance guys. I've been playing on one of these kits for 25 years and in my youth really gave it hell. I was hoping to supplement pieces from the other kit so that when combined I'll have a really nice set up again. ~ Rob G. nondisclosed_email@example.com (RobGoc)Sun, 18 Jan 2015 11:43:07 +0000 Re: Dating Guidehttps://brogersownersforum.runboard.com/p43864,from=rss#post43864https://brogersownersforum.runboard.com/p43864,from=rss#post43864Most of the information you require will be found on the ENGLISH ROGERS section of the forum. nondisclosed_email@example.com (JohnPloughman)Tue, 18 Feb 2014 21:24:02 +0000 Re: Dating Guidehttps://brogersownersforum.runboard.com/p43863,from=rss#post43863https://brogersownersforum.runboard.com/p43863,from=rss#post43863Hey. They are relatively close together, and all 3 drums wear them. In any event, they put the drums some time in 1966. Does not affect the value of the drums at all.
