Re: Dating Guide
I along with other knowledgeable Rogers collectors/players have been working on a new up dated "Roger Dating Guide". It's not ready yet but I do have up dated numbers for most Rogers drums. We believe these to be more accurate.
Post your numbers and I'll give you what I have.
Anyone that has a Rogers drum that they bought or know for sure when it was bought, please post the info about the drum. This helps us with improving the accuracy of the dating guide. We need date, size, color, lug type, paper tag info, serial numbers, model, all info about your drum. Just the one you are absolutely sure you know the year it was purchased.
Thanks,
Bruce

Re: Dating Guide
As near as I have been able to determine, this is what Ive got and the years they were probably manufactured. From things Ive read in different posts, I take it the 1965 date for the change from the clockface throwoff to the elongated that is stated in the book is incorrect?
Dynasonic........
D706061.......COB, 1977, I have the original sales receipt for this drum
Bruces edit cut my post way down.

I purchased a COB 5x14 7 line DynaSonic in the summer of 1964 at Schmit Music in Minneapolis. Serial number 2892. Clockface strainer with the black inset. Letter D stamped in the strainer. The 192nd Dyna with Beavertail lugs. Square tuning rods. Tall rims. Pointed end badge. Black painted ends on the snare frame (no caps). Black elastic on the frame.

Re: Dating Guide
1963 Rogers Buddy Rich Celebrity 22x14” B/D in Red Sparkle Pearl. Holiday label #19161 Cleveland. B&B lugs with Bow Tie t's. From the players perspective the bay to the right of center is a knobby mount in the center of the bay. Swivo L cymbal arm in the knobby. The bay to the left of center has two Swivo mounts right next to the lugs on the top. Straight hex Swivo cymbal stand with Swivo tilter in the front Swivo mount. Swivo tom holder in the rear mount. (for 9x13). Swivo spurs. Flat grey interior.
Rogers 9x13” Tom-Tom in Red Sparkle Pearl. Holiday label #20285 Cleveland. Small B&B lugs. Swivo mount. Tall hoops. Flat grey interior.
These two drums plus a 16x16 floor tom with large B&B lugs, which was destroyed when a car hit it while loading gear and a Dyna which was stolen, came as a set from the factory. They were all within about eleven hundred of each other in ser. no's except for the snare.

Jack your Dynasonic was made toward the end of 1963. There is no way to know for sure that Roger switched over to Beavertail lugs at 2700. it was around there but no one knows for sure, that information never documented. We do know that the switch from B & B to Beavertail was mid or a little later 1963.

Jack both those tag numbers are from 1961. That doesn't mean that's when they were built.
They just built drums, they didn't care about numbers they just reached into a box of tags and glued them on. If they didn't have any Holiday tags at their work station they went to someone else's and grabbed two Holiday tags. Might have been to bottom of the box and they had been there for a while.
You need to look at more things like washer type, screw head type. There are many things that help narrow down the year, but sometimes there's no reason why you find combinations that don't make sense.

Re: Dating Guide
No, I changed it........ I have only one drum I positively know when it walked out of the music store.
But here are the rest of them.
Dynasonics,
D706061, 1977, I have the original sales receipt from Modesto Music, Modesto Ca.
53004, late fullerton, 74-75 big R type bottom hoop all original.
13723, Early 5 line 67
10407, Late 7 line, 67 Elongated Throw, Got this one from Kelly smith.
D114608 maple Big R 1983
D122346 maple Big R 1983
D731420 maple Big R 8x14, 1980
Powertones.
3627, Cleveland clockface cob, beavertails, 1964-65?
3732, Cleveland elongated wrapped wood, beavertail, 64-65
15697 Dayton Tag two of the beavertails on this are deteriorated in a fashion which suggests high heat exposure. Ive seen heated chrom before, that doesnt immediately look damaged. The rest of the drum is fine. I wonder if this could be from the Factory Fire period.

Thanks for the info. Big "R" drums are hard to date because of the re use of the serial numbers (when they ordered new rolls of foil tags, they started with the same series of numbers)
53004 last of the oval badge Dynasonic's mid 1974
13723 ---1968 Dayton
10407----mid 1967
Big "R" Maple ----1983
Powertone 3623----end of 1963
Powertone 3732----early 1964, someone changed the throw.
Powertone 15697----early 1967. The intense heat from the Covington fire (February 4th 1967) did buckle lugs. (Info from Rob Cook's Rogers Book) Those lugs might be from fire.
Thanks,
Bruce
