Rogers 1977 Memrilock Big R Silver Metallic 24-13-16-18

This was the first set of drums I bought with my own money, and I didnt buy them, my parents did. I was 19, working nights and had saved all year to buy a new kit. I came home one night at 1 AM, the drums were in the house. And I was really pretty broke. They only knew one name in drums, ....... Rogers. These came up in the paper, 24, 13, 14, 15, 18, with 5x14 Dynasonic COB, Paiste 2002 Cymbals, and H&B Econoline cases, for 950.00. A lot of money when you are working for under 3.00 an hour. The were exactly seven days shy of being 2 years old.
Here they are
1. Nov. 9, 1979, my brother set them up
2. Huge, I went through this midlife crises phase
3. Today.

Beautiful wooden snare.

What kind of bass drum head do you have on the front? I really like the looks. I have Aquarian super kicks II on the batter side.

I just found the answer in another post - they are Fiberskyn . . . sort of looks like calf skin heads.

Right......FiberSkyn. that is a Fiberskyn 2, medium. No longer made. Vintage Shield Logo, Rogers Logos, no muffling. Batter is a PS3 Pinstripe. I have Aquarian SK 1 and SK 2 on 20" BDs, and I do not like them. I prefer a PS3 or an Evans EQ 1-4 Dry Vented Batter depending on the drum. Wich you do not find around here without driving 50 miles.

Ploughman, way, way cool! Did you say COB Dynasonic, or do you have a wood snare? Early pics show the COB, later pics, hard to see...

I still have that 1977 5x14 COB Big R Dynasonic. Its complete. I almost got rid of the snare frame when I was young and stupid. But.... I got to thinking, if I take it off... Im going to want it back. So I learned how to really set it up right.
I currently have seven dynasonics. 4 COB, 3 are 1980s maple.
Still play that drum.

Maple Dynasomics from the'80s...Wow. My 1980 catalog doesn't even show these. Were they special order? I'd sure like to find one in tobacco sunburst.
