Dynasonic? No badge
Hi all - I'm new to this board. Been lurking on and off for a while and must say that it's nice to find a board that is dedicated solely to ROGERS.
I have been playing a Big R kit since the mid-80's. Powertone toms.
Anyway I also have a 7-piece XP-8 Roy Burns setup in Mist Blue.
12, 13, 16, 18 TOMS
22 Kick
14 Snare
The snare appears in every way to be a Dynasonic, but there is no Dynasonic badge on it. There aren't even holes drilled into the shell where the badge normally goes.
Is this a Dynasonic? If so, is this one of those COB's or what might it be?
What might this kit be worth?
Thank You.

Re: Dynasonic? No badge
Take a magnet and see if it sticks to the shell. If it doesn't then it's a COB=Chrome Over Brass shell. If it sticks it's steel and not an USA made Dynasonic.
When you look at the throw, it's face is round with the sides flat and it says Rogers. One bay to the left is a knob that works an internal muffler. One more bay to the left is a vent hole and is where the Big "R" foil tag would be. It should have two pressed in trenches (beads) top and bottom in the shell and five pressed in lines in the middle.
Pictures would be good.

Re: Dynasonic? No badge
Just did the magnet test. She passed with flying colors. Woohoo! Thanks for the input. She's a COB Dynasonic. I still have to score a snare rail though.

Re: Dynasonic? No badge
This is what one with the Big"R" badge looks like. This is a picture of drumgrrl's Dynasonic. Yours should look like this without the foil Big "R" badge.

Re: Dynasonic? No badge
LongRoll,
Mine looks exactly like that - including the Big R badge. Still a Dynasonic though - right?

Re: Dynasonic? No badge
Hey Snake,
I thought you said it didn't have a Dynasonic badge, now you say it has the same Big "R" badge.
I think your talking about and looking for the oval metal badge that says Dynasonic and has a serial number on it, RIGHT???
WELL!!! in 1975 the oval badge and the script badge went away and was replaced by the Big "R" foil badge, until the end in 1987?
So, you have a 5X14 COB Dynasonic without the frame and wires. RIGHT???
We'll get to the bottom this I'm sure.
What next??????

Right, Bruce. The snare has a Big R badge without serial numbers, and there is no oval Dynasonic badge. At least the foil R says Rogers USA.
Thanks for the input!

Re: Dynasonic? No badge
I think they used foil Big"R" badges without serial numbers, when they had run out of badges with serial number and were waiting for a new order of badges with serial number to arrive.
There was a lot of waste with the foil badges, not installed square, air bubble under badge, wrinkle in badge, etc. so they went through them very fast.
Each time they reordered they got the same serial number sequence so dating using Big "R" serial numbers can't be done. There are other things that can help date drums from that time.
