Red Sparkle Powertone

I just received this beautiful drum...it's my first wood Powertone. What a well made, nice sounding and feeling snare drum. Would I be correct in thinking it's from 1966?

Re: Red Sparkle Powertone

That's a beautiful Powertone snare drum. I'd say it's a late 1966.

It looks all original, but I think I see two versions of the square cut Rogers drum key rods. The sharp edge almost flat top ones and the softer edge more round top ones. Could have been done by owners along the way. Usually all the rods match.

This was around the time that Rogers switched to the rods with the "Blip", the littler outward oval/rounded bulge at the bottom of the flat part.

Nice drum, I'm not trying to take anything away from that fact. As a collector I see things and my brain goes into research mode.

Please look close and tell me if what I see is factual, thanks,

Bruce

Thanks everyone.

Bruce, I'm not sure what to look for, the rods look the same to me. Maybe you can tell from this picture...it's a link to a much larger, detailed version of the pic above. You should be able to zoom in on from IE7. There are two rods that are about half inch longer than the others, but the tops look the same.

Beautiful drum....I just noticed on my chrome powertone that the knob is missing on the strainer and replaced with a screw.....where can I get one of these? Sheesh, I can't believe I didn't see that!

I know what Bruce means but I don't see it either. BUT you can't get anything by him.....I've only been a member for about 2 weeks but I'll bet you , he's right....

I think if I can get a tone control I can take the knob off for my snare......

That red is a beauty.

Here's the strainer that the knob's been replaced with a screw........will a muffler knob work on this?

Hey Backintoit..... I don't think a muffler knob will work, but it might. Send me a PM with your e-mail.... Perhaps I can help you out with a replacement.....
