Big R Update
Hi guys, A few weeks ago I posted a pic of the kit I had bought as it appeared on ebay, well after a strip down and a good clean, (the drums not me!!) there was some small rust patches, but not too bad the worst was the 18 floor tom bottom rim which was bad and had some chunks out of it! but didnt clean up too bad, I will replace it in time, the spurs I have had to rub down and spay and replace the rubber feet both had split, the tom mount has been sprayed all over by the previous owner, so I dont know what the chrome is like underneath, not sure what to do with this yet as two of the screw holes have stripped the thread so only one works each side, I might put rims systems on the toms at some time, so doing away with holder, anyone got any thoughts on this? the drums themselves look new not many marks at all, the insides are very clean, I wonder if someone can help me date them? they have grey speckled insides and I have posted a picture of one of the logos with the ser.No., I used the kit live at a gig, for the first time this weekend just gone, the drums sounded Awesome, got a lot of good feedback, I have put remo Emps. on the tom batters and a powerstroke3 on the bass batter and smooth white Amb on the front. still hoping to find 12 tom and a 16 floor tom. The kit I used to have in the late 70s 80s had the smooth grey insides so what years would they have been, earlier or later?. I will try and get a picture of me playing them at a gig posted on the live link, will also post a picture once I get it scanned of my old double bass drum kit from the 70/80s..... thanks guys..........Kev

Re: Big R Update
Nice work. Ebony is such a lovely color on drums.
There was this set of Rogers I used to own.......... I dont talk about them much... They were Big R ebony, serials in the 95xxxx range, memrilock mounts on the floor tom, 5 ply, flat gray interior, 22-13-14-15-16. And arguably, some of the sweetest sounding tubs Ive ever heard.

Re: Big R Update
I remembered my old Big r drums from the 70s sounding good, I must admit when I got these from ebay a few weeks ago, I did wonder if it was all in the mind nostalgic like, being quite a few years since I had heard or been up close to a kit like i had, but no soon as i struck them for real they sounded amazing really full sounding, im looking forward to recording with them.

Re: Big R Update
Wow, beautiful tubs! Great job! Mine USED to look like that, but nowhere near as nice. The black wrap was beat to heck. Had it removed and the wood stained / lacquered. I put a pic in the "show us...." thread.
Those look like they could have come out of a catalog. You lucked out that the badges face outward.

Re: Big R Update
Memrilock tube legs on the floor tom, figure 1979, just before the XP8 came out. If they are fullerton swivo, then, between 77 and 79. The numbers are high to be 75-77
