1981 - XP10 Snare Tooling

My references to "XP-10" was just to echo what other people on the forum were calling these snare drums. XP-10 was the name given to the 10 play shells used for the snare drums, just a continuation of the XP-8 naming convention. Communicating amongst ourselves at the factory, we did not call them "XP-10's."

Yes, to my knowledge whatever Rogers in Fullerton published in 1983 to use as a catalog would have been it.

I began to call the wood snares XP10s after seeing them mentioned by this name in the 1982 Japanese/American catalog. Perhaps they got carried away with the naming convention...? Was this catalog kind of an unofficial version? If so it had more information on individual snares than the American catalogs did.

Thanks, Ploughman, I would take a bow, but...

John C refers to the official catalog that was put out in Fullerton in 1983. He is correct in that this specific catalog does not mention "XP10." The only reference I can find is in the Japanese/American hybrid from 1982. So, is it an "official" catalog? If not, that's too bad because it has much more detailed information than the American catalogs. Too bad so much of it is in Japanese (unless you can read kanji).

That we are calling the snare an "XP10" comes from this page, as I distinctly remember being so excited about it and the dialogs we had about green and black felts and those oh-to-cool brass thumbwheel lug locks.

I love these drums...

John,

Thanks for the information. It's pretty cool to get it from the 'source', which is something I thought would never happen considering that the end of the (USA) Rogers line was almost 25 years ago.

Having you here to talk about this stuff is a minor miracle, in my opinion.

I don'r recall seeing that Japanese snare drum catalog. It was probably put together by the distributor over there.

You can find the full catalog in the "Rogers Catalogs" link. It has more than just the snares, including full drum sets.
