Re: 1983 - John Cermenaro's Set

Thank you John on the bass drum info. What are the bennefits sound wise with the DEEP toms vs regular sized toms? I know the deeper bass drum sounds more full, do the deeper toms have the same effect? Are they worth having? The bigger bass drum sure is,,,,Thanx!

1983 - John Cermenaro's Set

The deeper toms are visually stunning. How they sound is subjective, so I leave that up to the players and listeners.
They were only made for a few years and in low quantities, so they are rare.

The bass drum is an 18x22. We also had an 18x24. Both are absolutely awesome bass dums. My 24" has an evans eMad batter with an Emporer on the resonant side. If you stand in front of it, the low end will give you stomach cramps.

I'm guessing the Heritage (deep) toms' visual look is probably nicer in reality. In the auction pics and in the catalog, they look very ungainly. IMHO, they do not photograph well.

Im wondering why the standard for depth and diameters too. Who said it should be what it is today or what it was. Why not deeper? Why not less? A fusion set diameters are different. There must be a sound difference or it wouldnt be the way it is. Right? Who started the 1st confiquiration. Was Rogers responsible for the 1st multitom confiquiration? I dont see anything earlier than the top hat of 62 by other companies... I saw a lil 20 deep x 18 by Gretsch at the drums show and thought it was very punchy in sound. Very deep for the size. Just food for thought. Sry, I didnt want to highjack your thread. Nice set BTW

I posted some comments on the deep shell sizes on 2/17/08 under Questions & Answers; "XP8 Heritage series Q&A - square drums."

Hi John, I didnt see what size your toms are in the pic. Im assuming 9x12, 13x13, and 14X14, is this correct? No floor tom? Thank-you!
