Re: Rogers Prototype
John thanx for the reply. I guesss Im an interjector. lol But this adds to the confusion for me. I own many early sets of Rogers. Back in 59 -61 Rogers used a flat bearing edge. I know you may not have worked there then, but a 1/16" inch on both sides moved towards the center {to me}, did have a change on the sound and how the head performed.. There must be a profile on the edge which works best or better through your or the Co's experience. You say not, and I accept this. I would think its peak is towards the outside edge is better, but your post says, it didnt make a difference. This is huge for me. I have been observing this for years and ask myself why the change back then? This was signifigant for Rogers during this time {pre CBS} and the change was made just before then. Surely there's a method to the madness.

Rogers Prototype
Let me clarify. Moving the peak of the bearing edge all the way to the inside edge definitely changed the drum's performance. In this case, it did NOT improve it.
Having the peak in the center or towards the outside edge has performed well, as indicated by your own experience.
I do not know the history behind who specified the shapes of Rogers bearing edges over the years, or why they made their choices. While I was there, we had the opportunity to start experimenting as I've described, but we made no radical changes to the shape of the production bearing edges. However, I would say that we made a radical improvement in its quality and consistency.
