I sure don't understand what's up with the "surfcontrol" here at work. If I clicked on the links for this new forum it would be blocked but when I copy/paste the address it let me in.

Hey maindrummer, welcome to the new ROF, hope you'll be very active and stick around.

Your company or boss has set controlls on what you can do with the comapny computer. These's nothing we can do from this end.

Again, welcome!

Re: Welcome to the new ROF!

I just logged out and then back in so I feel confident the "surfcontrol" will allow me to take part.

My name is Rusty, I live in a little town just to the north of Portland, Maine. I'm married with two boys, 13 & 9. I work in the IS/IT department of Fairchild Semiconductor, sort of like a helpdesk technician except I go and fix what the users here call in to complain about.

I started playing in the early '60's (I'm 57) in drum & bugle corps and then after my Mom took me to see Gene Krupa and his band in Washington DC I was hooked! Like many of my generation I was first influenced by Ringo when I saw him on Ed Sullivan and the first band I was in covered all the current Beatles songs along with the surfer songs and instrumentals - Duane Eddy, Ventures, etc. I would be unable to count the number of bands I've been in but I played in several during my Junior and Senior High school days at most of the teen clubs and parties. It was a large school in southern Maryland but all the other musicans were playing the guitar or bass. I was the only drummer who had a kit (an old second hand red sparkle Kent with a Ludwig supersonic - so old it had the stick chopper rims). After high school I joined the Navy and when I got out I got my current set of Rogers.

Mostly I play with whatever band I can, mainly classic Rock but I really enjoy country - I dig the excitement of Rock and because I sing I like playing country. With my slightly southern accented baritone voice it tends to sound better singing country. I've had the thrill of playing twice with a big band and have kept my reading up so can do that whenever possible.

I've kept my Rogers set over the years because I think they're beautiful and I couldn't afford to replace them now with an equal in quality set. In the recent 5 or 6 years I have really come to appreciate the high quality craftsmanship and sound plus the bonus of having a classic. They have lived through a couple of floods, been in a house where some bad guys stole a lot of the other music gear, guitars and amps, a car accident and moving all over the country.

I came across this site as I was searching for Rogers drums and parts. I'd really like to get a solid Black signature 22" bass and a 10 x 14 tom. My set came with twin 12" rack toms and I want to exchance one of the toms with the next size bigger.

In the picture of my set, on the far right, is a drum I found in an abandon house on the Oregon coast. It is an early Slingerland, single ply maple. I refinished it and replace most of the parts with original, except for the rims, and it sounds wonderful. I'd like very much to have the change to save an old set of Rogers but haven't stumbled across one yet.
