Powertone Snare Beds Vs Dyansonic.

Can anyone tell me any info concerning the difference in snare beds on the powertones VS The Dynasonics?

I've owned a number of Dynas and Super Tens and loved them all. Now have my very first Powertone to mess around with.

I know it's sacrilege to some but I use my Dynas both with and without the Snare frame and I like both options for different results. Wondering how different the powertone will be since the shell material is the same.

According to Ben Strauss the Dynasonic bed was .004 inches deep and the powertone was .008 inches deep. also the powertone was a little longer as well, but very similar. You do get a different snare response. Not better or worse but different. The powetone has less snare action duration. The dynasonic snares will remain active longer, hence the buzzing. Also the Dynasonic snare are easier to active.
Hope this helps.

Thanks. Rally appreciate you taking the time.
Yes I have noticed the extended buzz on the Dyna at times. Almost as if it's not doing itself any favours by not choking itself! But it's been a while since I really spent some time messing with the tuning.

Use the height adjustment on the frame. Get the wired nearly dead flat with very little upward bow under tension. Don't try to accomplish that with tension alone... stretches the wires. Do it by changing the pitch of the end plates. Fairly flat is what you want to see. There will be no buzz.

Powertone is just a different drum. A beautiful different drum.

I own 17 Dyna-Sonics. None of them buzz.
