I'm not sure how I did it or if I could do it again but the pictures should be posted now.

I cannot date your drums in the early XP8 period. Ihe numbers confirmed from 83 that are close to your numbers.

Did someone goof up and forget the badges were supposed to be opposite to mounts? I'd like to know more about them, are they rare, I might be selling them. Bruce.

I am away for the weekend, so I did not give these pics as close attention as they needed. Your drums are indeed from 1982 very late-83/4 These super deep square sized drums were not made until that time. I have no explanation for the badge locations. I found the numbers and the badge locations to be very perplexing and completely contrary to all of my prior research.

So, 83/84. Check out the 1983 Catalog for drums like yours.

Don't forget that by the end of 1983 and moving to the demise in July 1884, the company was down to a few employees, and they were using up old stock. They assembled kits to order, as opposed to pulling boxes of drums from the warehouse. (There was no more warehouse!) So likely an employee wrapped a set of bare shells and built these the way he wanted to.

We can assume the same thing with the S/N foil badges. They probably just grabbed whatever they could find, wherever they could find it.

If you look at the pictures of Rod Morgenstein's drums he has the labels next to the mounts. The kit he using I saw him play in late 1981 and then again 1982. Maybe the early XLs were set up this way and then switched over to opposite side for consistency.

Here is another picture of Rod's kit. Also. John C's white kit in the back ground shows a similar location of the label, bit it is higher on the shell. On page 51 of the first Rogers book it shows Phil Fajarda's XL kit with a higher placed label that is also to the side of the mount.

My second set of drums is a XL Londoner 5 that I bought new in 1983. It has the badges opposed but the kit came with a 12" tom and a 14" tom because they were running out of 13" toms. At least that's what the salesman at the music store told me.
